Paktakon(Riddle)

Paktakon(riddle) is a literary form shared by the Western Visayan people which is an Old Kinaray-a (dialect).

Here are some examples of a paktakon:



Balay ka tatay ni Sisoy, harigi bari-bari, ang atop kawali.

The house of Sisoy's father, with foldable foundation and a pan for it's roof.

Kapti ikog ko,masalom ako.

English:
Hold my tail, I will dive.
-Laddle





Buras lolo, galigid ligid sa abo.
-Mais

English:
Grandpa's manhood rolling in the ash.
-Corn






Pakan-a ako mabuhi ako, paimna ako mapatay ako.
-Kalayo

English:
Feed me food and I will live, give me water and I will die.
-Fire




Kang bata ko taas ako, pag mal-am ko putot ako.
-Kandila

English:
When I was young I was tall, when I got older I grew smaller.
